This container of crystals sits on a laundry hamper in my bathroom. Like many familiar and everyday things, it mostly goes unnoticed. The other morning the sun hit it just so, and it lit up, glowing. Eye caught, attention granted. Here. It doesn’t take but a second before I dip my toes into memories of where this strange little iron container of scented crystals came from—a now many years old annual tradition of gathering with a crew of high school friends. There. I carried that hit of glow for the rest of the day, the present infused with a sense of past goodnesses.
The every day offers so many of these small moments. Eyes are so easily caught, glow so easy to come by. It’s not life-changing, but certainly day-enhancing and a reminder to collect what’s being offered for free all around us all the time.
